Dermal fillers are an ideal treatment for individuals wanting to achieve a more refreshed appearance. They are a non-invasive injectable treatment that can assist in adding volume and structure to the face and can help fill in wrinkles and folds in the skin as well as improve skin integrity and hydration.

Dermal fillers are made up of a synthetic hyaluronic acid (HA) gel that is injected into or under the skin, usually of the face, neck or hands.

Treatments are individualised and consultations prior to the treatment with HA dermal fillers are paramount to achieving subtle, natural looking and age-appropriate results.

COMMON QUESTIONS ANSWERED

Who is the treatment for?

For individuals over the age of 18, generally 25-70 years of age. Woman and men wanting to restore lost volume, improve/balance facial asymmetries, improve fine lines and wrinkles, improve acne scarring, and improve skin quality and hydration

How does it feel?

Everyone’s pain threshold is different when it comes to injections. We aim to make your treatment as comfortable as possible. We use numbing agents and distraction techniques to assist in minimising discomfort. Most hyaluronic acid dermal fillers also have an anaesthetic in the product, so the area numbs as it is injected.

Is there downtime?

Swelling and bruising are a common side effect of dermal filler treatment. Depending on the area treated swelling can last approximately 1-4 days, bruising can last a few days to a couple of weeks. We recommend reducing alcohol intake, caffeine, and some supplements such as fish oils 2 weeks prior to treatment to help reduce bruising. If medically safe to do so, and after discussion with your treating nurse and doctor, reduction or ceasing some medications two weeks prior to treatment, such as anti-inflammatories or blood thinners can also help reduce bruising.

When will I see a result?

You can expect to see results immediately from dermal filler, however swelling occurs with most treatments. Typically, 2-4 weeks for the dermal filler to completely settle and integrate into your tissue.

There are different types of fillers we use to suit different areas of concern. Some fillers can last 4-6 months, others up to 2 years. There are a variety of factors that determine how long filler lasts, these can be discussed further in your consultation with your treating nurse.

Treatment usually takes between 20 minutes to 1 hour, depending on the area/s treated.
